I have always liked Kata Beach better than Karon or Patong Beaches. Although very busy and commercial it has a certain charm.
For me a day at Kata has to include lunch at one of the small beach-side restaurants at the southern end of the beach. My lunchtime favourite is Kata Mama,
but for drinks in the evening Ska Bar is a fun choice, especially on Fridays when they have a fireshow right on the beach infront of the bar.

Don't forget to look out for the Roti (pancake) stall, usually parked at the top of the stairs near the car park.
The rainy season changes the beach into a surfing zone, but swimming has to be treated with caution and following the advice of the lifeguards and red flags is essential.
