Sarn Jao Jor Orng ศาลเจ้าจ้ออ๋อง (อ๊ามไถ้หงวนต๋อง)

Originating from a Hokkien family shrine in China dating back to the Tang Dynasty, this shrine is believed to originally have been erected in 1898 by a member of the Orng family who brought incense from China to worship in Phuket when he came to work in the Tor Dte Gong Nia Tin Mine owned by Mr Dtor Dteng Yong in Tung Tong. 

Dtor Dteng Yong had an illness that he couldn't cure and called upon the spirit of Jor Orng to provide him with a Chinese herbal remedy. The illness gradually improved and to honour Jor Orng he decided to build a shrine. The shrine was to be built on a piece of land donated by Orng Beng Ee, the husband of 'Mae Luan' (who built Mae Luan Road) near the junction of Krabi Road and Padipat Road where it still stands today. In those days like all Phuket's shrines it had a simple thatched roof later to be changed to corrugated iron. In 1970 the present building was erected.

ศาลเจ้าจ้ออ๋อง หรืออ๊ามไถ้หงวนต๋อง เป็นศาลเจ้าบูชาบรรพบุรุษตระกูลแซ่อ๋องสายฮกเกี้ยน จากตงอี่จุนอ๋อง หรือจ้ออ๋อง ผู้เป็นข้าหลวงมณฑลฮกเกี้ยนในสมัยราชวงศ์ถัง ระหว่าง พ.ศ. 1161 – 1450

จากเรื่องประวัติศาลบูชาบรรพบุรุษต้นตระกูลแซ่อ๋อง หรือ ไถ้หงวนต๋อง สรุปได้ว่า ตงอี่จุนอ๋องเป็นข้าหลวงมณฑลฮกเกี้ยน มีพี่ชายสองคน ทุกคนต่างมีความสามารถทุ้งทางพลเรือนและทางทหาร สามารถปราบปรามโจรผู้ร้าย และพัฒนาเขตฮกเกี้ยนให้เจริญรุ่งเรืองในสมัยราชวงศ์ถัง จนได้รับพระราชทานฐานันดรศักดิ์ชั้นสูงสุดที่สามัญชนพึงได้รับจากฮ่องเต้ คือ ชั้น อ๋อง เป็น ตงอี่อ๋อง หรือ จ้ออ๋อง จ้ออ๋องยังมีความรู้พิเศษอีกประการหนึ่งคือ ด้านพืชสมุนไพรเป็นอย่างดี

เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2441 ชาวจีนแซ่อ๋องคนหนึ่งที่อพยพมาทำมาหากินที่ภูเก็ต ได้นำ “ผงธูป” จากศาลเจ้าจ้ออ๋องที่ประเทศจีนมาด้วย แล้วตั้งโต๊ะบูชาที่เหมืองดีบุกของนายต่อเต่งหยอง แถบตำบลบ้านทุ่งทอง ชื่อเหมือง ท่อเต่กงเนี้ย

ข้างนายต่อเต่งหยองมีโรคประจำตัวอย่างหนึ่ง พยายามรักษาทั้งหมอจีนหมอไทยมาหลายปีก็ไม่หายหรือทุเลาซึ่งสร้างความรำคาญให้แก่ตนเป็นอย่างมาก นายต่อเต่งหยองจึงประกอบพิธีอัยเชิญเทพเจ้าจ้ออ๋องเข้าประทับทรง เพื่อขอยาจีนมารับประทาน ปรากฏว่าตำหรับยาที่พระเข้าทรงที่ตนไปเจียดมาต้มกินนั้น อาการดีขึ้นมาก ตนจึงเกิดเลื่อมใสศรัทธาเทพจ้ออ๋อง จึงคิดที่จะสร้างศาลเจ้าจ้ออ๋องขึ้น จึงได้ไปปรึกษา “นายอ๋องเบ่งอี่” สามีของแม่หลวน ผู้สร้างถนนแม่หลวนนั่นเอง โดยให้เป็นผู้แทนรับมอบที่ดินหนึ่งแปลงซึ่งติดกับสี่แยกถนนกระบี่กับถนนปฏิพัทธ์ คือสถานที่ตั้งศาลเจ้าจ้ออ๋องในปัจจุบัน

นายอ๋องเบ่งอี่จึงรับมอบที่ดิน แล้วดำเนินการก่อสร้างศาลเจ้าจ้ออ๋องขึ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2443 เพื่อให้ชาวตระกูลแซ่อ๋องได้สักการะบรรพบุรุษ แล้วจัดตั้งคณะกรรมการขึ้นคณะหนึ่ง นอกจากนี้ยังได้มอบหมายให้นายอ๋องโฮเส็งเป็นผู้ถือโฉนดที่ดินแทนศาลเจ้า อาคารศาลเจ้าเป็นเสาไม้มุงหลังคาจากกั้นจาก ครั้นถึง พ.ศ. 2496 คณะกรรมการและชาวตระกูลแซ่อ๋องได้พร้อมใจกันปรับปรุงศาลเจ้า โดยเปลี่ยนจากหลังคาจากเป็นหลังคาสังกะสี และถึง

พ.ศ. 2513 จึงได้มีการปรับปรังเปลี่ยนแปลงขนานใหญ่เป็นอาคารตึกสามคูหา ตกแต่งภายในด้วยไม้แกะสลักอย่างสวยงาม ดังที่เห็นอยู่ในปัจจุบัน

Laem Promthep Restaurant

Laem Promthep or Cape Promthep the southern most point of Phuket is Phuket's first and most famous place to watch the sunset, and it is is said by the Thais that "if you haven't seen the sunset at Laem Promthep then you haven't been to Phuket"! But what many people don't realise is that there is a restaurant at the top of the hill with great views that make it a perfect place to get away from all the tourists and watch the sun slip into the sea. However if you don't want to spend so much time there then there are plenty of snacks for sale on the street next to the car park.

Most people will watch the sunset in the area in front of the Lighthouse with the palm trees making perfect silhouettes against the sunset, but then just before the sun finally sinks into the sea you can walk along to the restaurant to catch the final moments over a cold beer. The restaurant has two entrances one from the coastal road and the other from either the main car park or the smaller car park on the way down the hill to Ya Nui Beach.

As darkness falls the view changes and all that remains to be see are the lights of the far off squid boats and of the hotel and restaurants at Nai Harn Beach.
