Gluay Nam Wa Restaurant, Saphan Hin, Phuket Town ร้านกล้วยน้ำว้า สะพานหิน

Having seen the news that this restaurant had just opened in Saphan Hin I just had to go and check it out. Gluay Nam Wa already has 3 other branches located around Phuket but this one has the added attraction of being just a 5 minute walk from 'The beach in Phuket Town' or what is actually a landfill on the east side of Phuket Town and a popular place for the locals to chill out. The nice thing is this restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating as well as a small rooftop area . Outside seating is right next to a small lake in front of the (ศูนย์วิชาการมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์) University under a few trees.

I was too early to be hungry enough for dinner so I decided on Bananas in Coconut Cream and a coffee. The coffee arrived hot, which is great news when so many restaurants in Phuket serve you luke warm coffee, but then the owner says he is specialising in coffee here and I must say my coffee was good. 

The menu is a temporary one at the moment (September 2018) but they will be properly open by the High Season I am sure. Prices are medium range, my coffee and bananas cost a total of 104 baht which is less than the cost of a coffee in many places. Below is the international food page from their temporary menu as an example, but of course they have Thai food too!

     

If you travel here by car then you can hopefully find a space in the carpark right behind the restaurant or even use the neighbouring car wash!

 

Although the restaurant is close to the lake, if you have arrived from Phuket Town passing Immigration on your right, you will need to turn into Soi Saphan Hin that runs alongside it and then turn right into the carpark. Just 2 minutes walk from Immigration, Gluay Nam Wa is a pleasant location for lunch, dinner, a drink or just a coffee after waiting all that time doing your visa extensions! They are open from 8am to 11pm but maybe give them a call to check before you go.
When you've finished lunch don't forget to explore the rest of Saphan Hin not forgetting the fishing boats in Klong Bang Yai and the  Chinese Temple too!
