Klong Bang Yai finally meets the sea at Saphan Hin, just follow Phuket Road out of town to the east and you will reach the Mining Monument that stands in Saphan Hin, take a right turn and you will reach the canal. It makes quite an interesting walk for anyone who loves boats or photography. At low water the boats remain stranded and a long way below road level. In the old days Klong Bang Yai was the main waterway into Phuket Town. In those days boats could sail to the front of the Post office and just 100 years ago it was possible to sail right into the middle of town, even up to Jui Dtui Temple. It is recorded as part of the history of the Vegetarian Festival that "the villagers so they went in procession to (meet him at) the port of Bang Niow".
