Sarn Jao Bang Neow ศาลเจ้าบางเหนียวต่าวบู้เก้ง

n 1904 a fire occurred at a small shrine erected by a Chinese Theatre Group Gong Chai Hee in what is now Soi Rommanee, the shrine was revered by the local community who hurried to remove all the sacred objects from the shrine to save them from the fire. The villagers divided into two groups, each wanting to build the new shrine in their own community. So they agreed to divided the sacred objects and build two separate shrines, one community built a small, simple thatched roof shrine which would become known as Sarn Jao Bang Neow, Sarn Jao Dtao Bu Geng or Sarn Jao Chai Dteung, the other group were to  build Sarn Jao Jui Dtui.

At that time the Shrine stood on the opposite side of the road to it's present location but in around 1907, due to fire once again a new location was sought and the shrine was relocated to the opposite side of the road.  Some time later it was agreed by the community to change the flammable grass roof for a metal roof and to raise money to purchase the land at the site where the shrine had been erected. In 1957 it was decided to set up the Thep Rahsee Foundation, although it was not until 1959 that it became official and the land documents transferred. In 1961 with the land ownership confirmed, the Foundation agreed that the corrugated iron metal roof should be replaced and the building enlarged. In 1991 the plot of land beside the shrine was donated and the shrine renovated to be as it is in present day. 

I remember the shrine in1987 as having a narrower entrance and a smaller courtyard in front where various events would be held during the Vegetarian Festival such as Climbing the Ladder of Blades or Fire Walking, however I don't seem to have any photos from back then so I am not sure how accurate my memories are!

อ๊ามบางเหนียว หรือ ศาลเจ้าต่าวบู้เก๊ง หรือ มูลนิธิเทพราศี เป็นศาลเจ้า เก่าแก่ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ.2447 ชาวบ้านเรียกว่า ศาลเจ้าต่าวโบ้เก๊ง หรือฉ้ายตึ๋ง เป็นที่ทราบกันว่า มีคณะงิ้วจีน คณะกังฉ๊ายฮี่ เดินทางมาจากเมืองจีน มาแสดงที่ตรอกเม่าเก้า (ซอยรมณีย์ปัจจุบัน) ขณะนั้นมีศาลเจ้า อยู่แห่งหนึ่ง จึงได้นำพระเตี๋ยนฮู้หง่วนโส่ย (เหล่าเอี๋ย) มาบำเพ็ญกุศล และเริ่มประเพณี ถือศีลกินผักเป็นประจำ จนชาวบ้าน เกิดความเลื่อมใส และเข้าร่วมกิจกรรม เป็นจำนวนมาก

ต่อมา เกิดเพลิงไหม้ที่ศาลเจ้า โดยไม่ทราบสาเหตุ จึงมีชาวบ้านกลุ่มหนึ่ง ได้นำ พระเตี๋ยนฮู้หง่วนโส่ย (เหล่าเอี๋ย) ไปประดิษฐานที่ อ๊ามบางเหนียว และช่วยกันสร้าง ศาลเจ้าเรือนไม้ หลังคามุงจาก

4-5 ปีต่อมา เกิดเพลิงไหม้ศาลเจ้าอีกครั้งโดยไม่ทราบสาเหตุเช่นกัน จากนั้น ชาวบ้าน จึงได้นำพระเตี๋ยนฮู้หง่วนโส่ย (เหล่าเอี๋ย) ไปประดิษฐาน ณ บริเวณตรงกันข้าม ที่เกิดเพลิงไหม้ ชาวบ้านบางเหนียว เกิดความเลื่อมใส ศรัทธา ร่วมบำเพ็ญกุศล และถือศีลกินผักทุกปี ทำให้สถานที่คับแคบแก่ผู้ที่มาร่วม ทำพิธีกรรมของศาลเจ้า จึงมีคณะนำโดย ขุนเลิศภาคารักษ์ ได้ร่วมแรงร่วมใจ กับปรับปรุงศาลเจ้าขึ้นใหม่ เป็นหลังคามุงสังกะสีและเรี่ยไรเงินจากชาวบ้าน ซื้อที่ดิน 6 แปลง ในปี พ.ศ.2500 คณะกรรมการ บริหารศาลเจ้า จำนวน 5 คน ได้ก่อตั้งเป็นมูลนิธิเทพราศี ในปี 2501 จากนั้น ได้มีการปรับปรุง พัฒนาจาก หลังคาสังกะสี เป็นอาคารคอนกรีตที่มีขนาดใหญ่ อำนวยความสะดวก แก่ผู้คนมี่มาร่วมบำเพ็ญกุศลด้วย
