Wat Muang Gomarapat - วัดมว่งโกมารภัจจ์

This temple is a little hard to find as it is off the main Thepkrasattri Road. As you head a few kilometers north of Wat Pra Nang Sang take the left turning down Tanon Bahn Riang and look for blue signs, I can not remember whether they were in English or only Thai. There may be a sign for the Heroines Memorial or something like that so until I get back to check the signs out.........a link to a location map can be seen at the bottom of this post.

The temple makes a good day out if combined with a trip to other nearby temples such as Wat Pratong, Wat Pra Nang Sang or Wat Sri Sunthorn or even Thalang National Museum. Just a short drive away is the place believed to be the site of the Heroine sisters' house, Bahn Thao Thepkasattri. 

Wat Muang Gomarapat is an abandoned temple located in a rubber plantation in Bahn Riang, Tambol Thepkrasattri, Amphur Thalang. It is believed by the local people that the spirit of a monk that died at the temple during the reign of King Rama V still looks after the temple and that the spirit of Luang Poo Tong resides in the half Buddha image in the temple grounds.

It is also believed that the grounds of the temple were used as a place to train soldiers in preparation for the Battle of Thalang and that there was a herbal well for the soldiers to bath in to protect them as well as simmering of special oils and tattooing of special protective 'yantra' tattoos.   

In 1985 Phuket celebrated  the 200 year anniversary of the Battle of Thalang and a Pavillion was built within the grounds of the temple in honour of the two heroins. The local residents can now make offerings to the Heroines here as an alternative to the original Heroine's Monument which is now difficult to access due to heavy traffic.

Just outside the main temple is a Pra Buddha Manee Sri Thalang, an image made of Tin in a ceremony started by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Jakri Sirindhorn in 1996. The image sits in a position believed to symbolise plentiful rain.

วัดม่วงโกมารภัจจ์

หรือชาวบ้านที่นี่จะเรียกกันติดปากว่า วัดม่วง ตั้งอยู่ในชุมชนบ้านเหรียง หมู่ที่ 3 ตำบลเทพกระษัตรี อำเภอถลาง จังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นวัดในความดูแลของวัดพระนางสร้าง ในปี พ.ศ. 2528 ทางจังหวัดภูเก็ตจัดงานฉลองครบรอบ 200 ปี วีรสตรีศรีเมืองถลาง ซึ่งชาวเมืองถลางได้ช่วยกันปั้นหุ่นประติมากรรม ท้าวเทพกระษัตรีท้าวศรีสุนทร ต่อมามูลนิธิท้าวเทพกระษัตรีท้าวศรีสุนทร และผู้มีจิตศรัทธาได้ร่วมแรงร่วมใจกันสร้างวิหารศาลาจัตุรมุขเจย์ดีเป็นอนุสรณ์ และประดิษฐานรูปปั้นท้าวเทพกระษัตรีท้าวศรีสุนทร

วัดม่วงโกมารภัจจ์ยังมีพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นครึ่งท่อนเศียรชำรุด ชาวบ้านเชื่อว่าวิญญาณของพระภิกษุ สมัยราชกาลที่ 5 ซึ่งมามรณภาพที่วัดแห่งนี้ยังคงสถิตคอยดูแลปกป้องวัดและมีวิญญาณของหลวงปู่ทองสถิตอยู่ที่พระพุทธรูปครึ่งองค์ ใกล้พระพุทธรูปเคยมีต้นทึงและต้นทัง ซึ่งลายแทงวัดม่วงโกมารภัจจ์กล่าวถึงมีความว่า ระหว่างต้นทึงต้นทังเป็นที่ฝังสมบัติ

ชาวบ้านยังเชื่ออีกว่า วัดม่วงโกมารภัจจ์ เคยเป็นวัดก่อนสมัยท้าวเทพกระษัตรี(ท่านผู้หญิงจัน)ท้าวศรีสุนทร(คุณมุก)ก่อนสงครามศึกถลาง พ.ศ.2328 เจ้าเมืองถลางได้ใช้ลานวัดม่วงโกมารภัจจ์เป็นสถานที่ฝึกซ้อมทหาร ฝึกการเคี่ยวน้ำมัน ลงยันต์ทหาร ฝึกซ้อมรำกริช ฝึกผสมดินปืน มีบ่อน้ำ 2 บ่อ บ่อหนึ่งแช่ว่านยาสมุนไพรให้ทหารอาบน้ำเพื่อการอยู่ยงคงกระพัน

นอกจากนี้มีพระพุทธมณีศรีถลาง ปางคันทราช หรือปางประทานฝน ประทับอยู่นอกวิหาร ใต้ต้นโพธิ์ โดยสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯสยามบรมราชกุมารี เสด็จเป็นองค์ประธานเทดีบุกหล่อ พระพุทธมณีศรีถลาง(นามพระราชทาน) ขนาดหน้าตัก 109 นิ้ว และรูปจำลองท้าวเทพกระษัตรีท้าวศรีสุนทรท่านั่ง ที่วัดม่วงโกมารภัจจ์ เมื่อวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 19 ธันวาคม 2539 ณ มงคลฤกษ์ 10.00 น.
