Also known as 'Bahn Gao Ya Jan Ya Mook (บ้านเก่า ย่าจัน ย่ามุก ) this small memorial shrine is reputedly the site of the Heroine's house.
Jan the wife of the then recently deceased governor and her sister Mook lead the villagers in a fight against the invading Burmese during the Burmese - Siam War in 1785. After their victory the two sisters were given the honorary titles of Thao Thepkasattri and Thao Srisunthorn by King Rama 1 and have become a very important part of Phuket's history. Every year a festival is held on the anniversary of the defeat, March 13th, with a re-enactment of the battle being held at Thalang Victory Memorial Field.
This trip can be combined with a visit to Wat Muang Gommarapat and Ajarn Lieap Chanaseuk Museum all of which are close by, just head back along the canal and turn right into Tanon Bahn Riang and once again look out for blue signs. To see more about these places follow the links in this text.
The easiest way to get there is to turn right next to Wat Pra Nang Sang along Dom Jorm Tao Road and take a right turn accross the small bridge on the bend into Tanon Bahn Riang then take immediate right and follow a small road alongside the canal until you see a blue sign with an arrow on it. I would never have found this without directions. So here is a map!
